Tamron SP 70-200mm f2.8 Di VC USD review
#1
The new Tamron with image stabilization and USM style motor seems to be a very good lens now, just about on par with the offerings from Canon, Nikon and Sony. Especially when the price starts dropping a very interesting alternative for those wanting an f2.8 portrait zoom:

Yep, and it's black. I hate it when my 70-200/2.8 L IS is attracting attention. Though screw Tamron for omitting VC in Sony mount - the lens will be less useful for adapting to E mount this way. Come on - Sigma did include the stabilization feature in their 70-200/2.8 for Sony mount (though it removed it from more basic lenses - screw them too).

The omission of VC for the Sony A mount is probably a marketing ploy from Sony itself (large stake holder in Tamron)... Indeed, it would be nicer if they had included it and let the user decide which IS to use.

But Sigma has nothing to do with Sony and yet they're following the same pattern after an initial period of sanity (from the user perspective, at least). Well, at least their 70-200 is stabilized even if the 17-50 isn't anymore.

But that's just me nitpicking; I'm a Canon user anyways and this lens looks real nice. If I hadn't owned a 70-200 already I might have been giving this lens a close look.

Yep, looks very promising. Can't wait to try it out myself. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a release date for the F-mount version, yet.

I played a bit with the sample lenses on display at photokina (all EF mount). They had rather stiff zoom rings, too stiff for my taste (at least as long as we're talking about action photography, like indoor sports). But they were said to be pre-production units not completely matching the final production units. Hopefully Tamron has worked on this issue a little since then.

I also played with the new 90/2.8 VC a bit. Given it's a macro lens, it was focusing _very_ fast. Quite impressive.

Looks to be a nice lens. I have to go check with my old Tamron 90mm f2.8 to be sure, but it seems that the new lens has lost a little bit in bokeh smoothness? The photos look nice and contrasty, but we don't know the PP they have been subjected to:

.......so many pictures looking so nice possibly means it's the lens rather than the post…… it is maybe looking just the thing for an certain aps-c eos that's close to me and is wanting a good macro, at say 90mm - ta both

Sorry, seems i clicked my mouse by accident during that last post so the text was all jumbled <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

It indeed looks like a nice macro lens... But not for me on APS-C. The 90-105mm class is not my favorite for macro on APS-C, I found out the hard way. I prefer wider (24-55mm or longer (200-300mm).

On FF this 90mm looks to be lovely, and if I in future get an FF camera, this lens may well be a nice replacement for my old Tamron 90mm.
