$1400 for the lens and $230 for the tripod collar ? It will be interesting which of third party companies in the tripod market will be out first.

Yes some people will buy it especially if it turns out to be an quality performer. But on the other hand Sigma, Tamron and Tokina must be delighted.

The list price will not be the same as the street price. In list price, it is about the same as the canon 70-200mm f4 L IS USM. Look at how much the street price for that lens is now. And the Nikon has very similar optics, and we know how high quality the optics of the Canon are already. this, combined with the much lower weight compared to an f2.8 verion will make it a very popular lens, just like the Canon counterpart.

The lenses do not need a tripod collar either... So the price of it should not matter to most.

Sigma has no f4 version, and its f2.8 version has very heavy focus breathing. The current Tamron has no USM style motor and no image stabilization. There will be a new version, but that one will still be a lot heavier. Only Tokina with its 70-200mm f4 has a really competing lens.

Not sure if they will be happy... I am pretty sure they introduced a 70-200mm f4 partly because it would have been on hit in Nikon mount. Now all of a sudden Nikon has their own.
