I believe this is the right moment to divide "focus breathing" into two characteristics: focus inhale & focus exhale <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />...

LOL. Good idea <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Narrowing the AoV at MFD @200mm should be good I think... Especially for close ups: higher magnification and better isolation of the background (as in perceptual shallow DoF of tele vs. wide). Isn't that so?

Fully agree. I had no issue with the focus breathing of the 70-200/2.8 VR II (for my applications), but if I had to choose, I'd prefer the way the f/4 lens behaves.
