Not sure what this has to do on a photography forum <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

It seems that Sonny if following Philips way. The only difference is that Philips is just 10 years ahead.

From leading TV, semiconductor, consumer electronics and lighting they moved to medical and abandon the semiconductors and TV. In the mean time they are outpaced in lighting. Today they are striping down even the medical. One day they will simply disappear.

Can´t comment on all activities of Sony but it is clear that they scored with their NEX mirrorless line big time, big as in really big.

Well, as a 10% shareholder Sony will be part of the board and as such be able to influence decisions.

And we are talking about Sony E vs MFT here, of course.

This may be an issue for MFT on the mid to long term if Olympus doesn't achieve decent profitability in this business sector.

As such a message is viable I'd say.

Maybe it's a (business side) confirmation of a growing partnership between Sony and Oly, at the cost of Panasonic if they decide to source the sensors etc. from Sony, as the case of the PEN line would suggest.. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> And if Olympus thinks of producing APS-C or full frame DSLR's then again Sony looks all the more viable as a long term partner..

The new Panasonic GH3 is rumored to employ a Sony sensor as well. Eventually they simply couldn´t compete with the quality Sony sensors provide. By end of 2013 MFT will probably be all Sony inside.

This is interesting.

They say the Olympus could supply Sony with lenses whereas Sony could supply Olympus with sensors.

The latter part is no surprise but the first one is I think.

I was always wondering about the lens weakness in the Sony lineups. This seems to be a rather desperate move.

I'm a bit surprise sony had the money. It seems like every year they are suffering massive losses.

Klaus "This seems to be a rather desperate move. "

Have you been smoking pot or what? This is not a "desperate " move. It's Sony's interest in investing in profitable medical division. This has nothing to do with "lenses" per se, but the lens/sensor deal is just a minor side note to overall investment.
