Mirrorless market share
#1
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sony-is-l...de-market/

An interesting chart at link above, and if you click through to the source you can see the full image too.

It shows what Sony thinks is its market share across geographical regions, with an overall 41% share worldwide. They don't name their competitors, but A and B are likely to be the microFourThirds duo, who combined give 39%.

Where are the rest? Hard to say since they only list the top 3 per region. E are 2nd in Korea so I'd guess that's local company Samsung.

I'm lost as to who might C and D be... who's unaccounted for? Nikon is likely one of them. Fuji perhaps, if they sold enough to make the radar. Leica getting a top 3 might be a bit challenging. That leaves... Pentax?

Also more charts there. As % of interchangeable lens cameras, they claim mirrorless make up 18% in Europe, compared to up to 50% in Japan, with a worldwide average of 23%.

I wonder who is leading in Japan with 36%... Olympus maybe?... More interestingly Sony loses almost the same shares in UK and Germany.

But in the end, I think rather than the market share, the absolute amount of revenue per each country is essential.

In US it's probably Sony, Panasonic, then Olympus. I see them very often in that order. Brand C probably Nikon, and D maybe Fuji or Pentax. E is definitely Samsung.

This is not rocket science.

A is Olympus (leading in Japan)

B is Panasonic (doing good in UK and Germany)

E is Samsung (#2 in Korea)

C is Nikon, but it's unfair as Nikon 1 starting shipping only late in 2011

I think it is fair, if they join late, they have a late start. For similar reasons Canon wont even be on the radar for a while yet.

Want to guess who's D?

My guess it's Fuji, because it's number 3 in Germany, and Germans like Leicas, and Fuji is trying to be a Leica-like.
