Canon EOS mirrorless
#1
Can't they just give us a break here at PZ - we've got enough systems sitting on our desks already! :-))

Its only a rumor...
#3
Another part of the rumour is it will be announced on Monday, so if true wont be a rumour for much longer.

Some other random thoughts I had:

Very crudely I'd estimate from the image a body width of 96mm, 61mm height to flat part, both excluding protrusions, and give me a good tolerance for error here! For comparison, my HX9V compact is 105mm wide 60mm tall. I think this is even smaller than the NEX models.

On that size body and styling, I wouldn't expect EVF. Maybe one for a future model.

A 22mm lens, assuming 1.6x crop factor sensor would give a classic 35mm length. If they used a smaller G1 X sized sensor that would push it out to just past 40mm equiv.

If APS-C sensor, expect it to be the same as the one in the 650D. Hopefully electrically compatible with EF(-S) mount requiring only a glorified extension tube to adapt.

Best case: Canon have come up with an APS-C sensor system with compact body and lenses that doesn't suck like all the rest. Worst case: this is another NEX.

if you see the filter size at 43mm and extrapolate on the lens body size, it could be around the NEX lenses size. APS-C sounds feasible, especially with this fixed lens.

Not sure about the EF-M name, there was an older EF-M body named that it seems.

A bit too elaborated for a "fake" just few days prior a press release. Let's wait & see.

Cool.

From the other image where the sensor is visible, (http://photorumors.com/2012/07/20/more-i...-stm-lens/) the sensor is a 4:3 one, not a 3:2 one. So, it seems likely for now that it is a sensor like in the G1-X.

A bit of a shame, as the biggest gripe I have with the 4/3rds cameras is the sensor aspect ratio.

For the rest, it actually is quite a good looking camera (unlike NEX), like some of the MFT ones.

I might be biased by my focus on MFT since day 1 but it seems Panasonic & Olympus have a much bigger headstart with canon arriving now than if Canon was to join the APS-C gang (NEX, Samsung & Fuji). But Canon is a powerful brand, people still think "I'll buy a nikon or a canon".

The sensor image wasn't available earlier. Looking at it, the sensor looks 3:2 to me, but it is very hard to tell from the low quality image. The physical opening looks about 4:3, but there appears to be a band of dead space around the sensor, not just attributable to reflections or shadows. That part in the middle looks closer to 3:2, although it is a bit borderline as a few image pixels either way could swing it towards one or the other.

The G1 X sensor doesn't have phase detect does it? If they recycled the 650D sensor that can be dropped straight in. And those Canon system users wanting a supplementary system would be able to adapt and use EF lenses without having to worry about sensor size effects. Admittedly this would probably be a minor consideration for "compact upgrader" market.

As for the EF-M, note that is claimed to be the mount designation, not the camera model name. There is suggestion it could be EOS M.

I did measure it in PS (in two ways) and it is almost exactly 4:3, whether I take the plastic frame or the seeming actual sensor area.... My money is on 4:3 for now.

this is what 3:2 looks like:

Compare that to:

Do note the extra electrical contact AF-M has gained...
#9
I noticed the extra contact too. Also the mount does appear to be a little smaller if I got my scaling right.

I think we went through the same process trying to measure the sensor size, but like I said, the low resolution makes it hard to see what starts or ends where. There's plenty of room for error... just a few days to find out anyway!

4 years I waited for Canon to come up with a MILC and I have to say I'm bitterly disappointed. No EVF, too small, not enough physical buttons, oddly placed video button, no built-in flash... <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> Well, at least they got the sensor size right so there's still hope for a better model next year.

As the XP1 will does not offer good AF I'll stay fixed on the OM-D or GH3.
