I'd go with what Wim said. They aimed for a spot, which might not be YOUR spot.
I never have a feel for US list price since they bare no resemblance to what I see over here, but using them relatively against current B&H prices, the kit is cheaper than the 650D body only, but more than 1100D kit. Expect the usual drop from list to street pricing, well, it could be better, it could be worse.
More of an annoyance is the expected availability of October... why the long gap again? Just hope it doesn't become a 1D X...
