Frankly, I don't see greatness in the bokeh. Tack sharp though.

Got funny self-portrait <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> (No. 4)

You always seem to have a problem "getting" bokeh, Klaus. I see no hint of double lines, no nervousness, just a smooth rendering of OOF parts in the posted images. Quite good for a 40mm lens, and very good for a pancake design.

I miss the product pictures with lens attached on 5D and 50d.

They will show the weight and space advantage - for me it look like as pinhole cammera.

Look at the light spots in the tress of the 1st pic. Definitely a bit of a bright outline there. How bad you rate it is another matter.

yes all nice......sharpness, softness + the well dressed photographer and his bicycle at no extra cost.......yes everything's upside down up there in the northern hemisphere......and isn't this a much nicer way of showing the picture results than the one size fits all over on the lens review pages......but yours truly has mentioned this in passing before......and, nice pics, ta

The bokeh is not either good or bad. There is a middleground which is where this lens is IMHO.

In its focal length group, im my opinion, it is good. Not many 30-50mm lenses have smooth bokeh. Most are pretty bad...

The Nikon 40mm f2.8 DX micro has nice background bokeh, as does the Sony DT 35mm f1.8. Certainly not the Pentax 40 and 43mm pancakes, to name a few. I think this 40mm STM sits with the better group in its focal length class.
