Well any kind of lens on J1 would make it bigger than RX100, especially if it's a zoom lens.
I disagree about this camera being a "response to Nikon for them dancing with another partner." It's far more likely that Sony choose this size so they can tempt Nikon into buying it too. That's just more profit on the same sensor.
As for Pentax, I am sure Sony would love to sell the sensor to Pentax or anyone interested in buying it. The semi-conductor division makes sensors so they can sell them. I never believed Nikon ever had any exclusive contract with Sony. Sony would even sell this to Canon if Canon wanted to buy it. Canon S95 had a Sony's sensor.
As for Pentax Q with this sensor, I doubt it. The Q lenses won't cover this larger sensor. Pentax should just dump Q and make something with APSC sensor and a new mount with an adapter for K-mount lenses. Either that, or they should go really niche and try FF mirrorless.
The 1" sensor is too small for an expensive interchangeable lens system. That's why, long term, Nikon 1 is destined to failure. It will have to compete with all p&s makers who would be using bigger sensors like 1" in future cameras. The p&s cameras have no choice but to go bigger sensors, as they are being squeezed to death by cellphones. They have to go bigger so that they can distance themselves from cellphones. That's why Nikon 1 won't survive the next 5 years. It will get squeezed by p&s cameras that all will have similar sensors to N1.
