I wouldn't buy it for 1500$, but if it is as good as the initial reviews indicate, I would without doubt for $900. I guess the reality will be somewhere in between.
For comparison, the Canon 24-70mm f2.8L Mk I is approx. $1500 in my local shop. I doubt they or Canon are selling it at a loss. Yes, the Panasonic has IS, but I'd rather not have that at this focal length.
