If you look at the pictures, you will notice it was a sunny day. With the light we had and the minimum ISO on the NEX-7, I could not open any wider than f/2.8 without hitting the maximum shutter speed.
You may also have noticed that the maximum aperture I used on the 35mm G was f/4 and not f/2.8. The reason is the following: that lens has been designed for film 20 years ago and left with noticeable residual spherical aberration so as to give a dreamy effect wide open. In simple terms: it is a great lens on the A900 but gives quite blurry pictures wide open on the NEX-7. At f/2.8 everything is still quite blurry and I can't really tell the difference between corners and center. It has nothing to do with the NEX sensor (apart from its resolution), it is a function of the lens.
Last but not least: what did I try to find out with my simple test?
Klaus said that the corners of the NEX-7 were catastrophic on rangefinder lenses, but also on the CZ 85 f/1.4. While the effect of the rangefinder lenses can be explained by the sensor design and do not bother me, any effect on the CZ 85 f/1.4 would be really worrisome. I don't have that particular lens, so I tried the lens which I have for which the problem, if any, is likely to happen. I didn't find a problem and I don't worry any more. It seems to me that the sensor problems are limited to rangefinder lenses or to be more specific lenses for which the exit pupil is close to the sensor.
