You're right of course that the group of users interested in using manual lenses on APS-C cameras at all (not limited to Nikon, but also including NEX an the likes) is limited.
On the other hand, Zeiss obviously sells quite a few of these lenses (just as Cosina/Voitländer with their SL II series) and that was already the case before FX arrived.
