I hope D700 won't die (or merge into D4)... If I were Nikon (<img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />), I would use an FX sensor with less than 20mp resolution including the spectacular high ISO performance, manage a higher fps and put a price tag of 3.500$ on it to compete with 1D-X... And that new spoilt child D4 or the upcoming toplofty 5D3 can have whatever they like (36mp or even more)...
Oh, did I forget to mention that the 3.500$ Nikon camera should be called "D800"...<img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

I resent the idea of 36mpx D800 to be the successor of the great low-light performer D700. I really hope we will also (later) see something like D700s with say 16mpx FX sensor and D3s-like signal-to-noise ratio. Am I dreaming??
