I think people are getting too caught up in the MP count vs high ISO.

People with no knowledge think "more MP means = it must be better".

People with some knowledge think "lower MP = cleaner high ISO / better IQ".

Truth is, it's somewhere in-between.

MP is not the only thing that affects high-ISO. Better Noise Reduction algorithms/technology is also comes into play.

It's like saying a 6MP D40 (roughly same pixel pitch as the D700) has better high ISO capabilities/IQ than the 16MP D5100 (roughly same pixel pitch as the rumored D800). Or, saying the D3 has the same ISO capabilities as the D3s because it's the same pixel pitch.

The D700 is a three year old camera. With the updated sensor tech, I would assume the D800 can at least match the D700 high-ISO/IQ even at the higher MP count.

It would also be interesting to see if they add binning tech to this camera.



Also, NR now states that there are 2 versions of the D800.
