Well, with higher DR you can increase contrast using saturation, without touching luma, and picture will still look natural and punchy, while retaining all details in shadows / highlights.
Plus having more headroom in form of DR, you can choose what to clip when you up the contrast, as opposed to not having that data in the first place.
