I use Picasa as one of my stores. You can make online albums and set them as public (anyone can see), private (anyone with specific link) or even more restricted. Combines with the software of same name to make uploading easy.

- yes i'll give a vote for smugmug too - - the way you can set up privacy and access to your various albums is useful as are the stats info, and it seems to me to be not too expensive for a quality site
My vote - Smugmug. Works as it should (uploading and viewing works better then the other sites I tried), good communication when and if needed, and I'd call it photo-centric, instead of social/community oriented (like Flickr).
