Pentax is DEAD ...
#11
I believe the Q will be a moderate success, mostly in Japan. Also, the 645D is doing it's job (let's not forget, other companies lives from the medium format) - in fact it have an easy time right now and I don't think it will be bothered by those higher resolution small format DSLRs.

The K-5 itself could be called a breakthrough (mostly because of the Sony sensor), and if you think the best Pentax lenses are "average" you're gravely mistaken.

Minolta's grave is Sony, btw.

Pentax isn't dead because Ricoh lives. That's how I meant the message.

However, IMHO the DSLR era will end over the next decade. Products like the K-5 are meaningless on the mid to long run.

Sony will release the A77 soon ... and the NEX-7. Both with identical specs basically if the rumor mill is correct. Assuming that the lens lineup was identical (which is clearly not the case) there would not be any reason to go for the A77 actually.

Klaus, products like the K-5 are meaningful now. And about your prediction, the DSLR market is growing... is it wrong to be in a growing market?

Pentax isn't dead because they keep making cameras&lenses&stuff. They're not Pentax Corporation anymore, they're a division of Hoya and soon, a Ricoh-owned subsidiary; that's less important.

The question is whether the "DSLR market" does also include the EVILs.
#17
Both DSLRs and EVILs are growing, but no, Canon doesn't sell any EVIL <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Yet. The article just mentions DSLR shipments at the end - not Canon DSLR shipments. [Image: wink.gif]

"Canon forecasts sales of about 7 million single-lens reflex cameras this year, compared with sales of 5.9 million last year" <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

As I've said, the DSLR market is growing.

Of course it is, the evil cameras are partly substitute for some of the compact cameras, but not for DSLRs...
