Sigma lost it completely.

Ok, this page is full of strange assumptions, stupid brain farts (or lets just call them strange (deliberate?) errors) and some real info.

It is not in any way an authoritative source to link to as "evidence" or "explanation".

Most obvious example: Look at the green leafs.

The 5D crop is totally obviously VERY out of focus, the sigma sample is very in focus.

Probably totally on purpose by that guy (because it is SO obvious, he would notice when cropping), but if not on purpose... then to blame to be VERY DIFFERENT DOF.

He does not even shoot the scenes with equivalent settings.... In fact, he states he shot them with the SAME camera settings. One camera being full frame 135 format, the other being 1.7x APS-C crop format. Wonderful.

Oh and Klaus are you going to review some lenses on the SD-1? - (you might have to cut down on your holidays for a while) <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

[/quote]

A camera that only accepts Sigma lenses ... sounds like a reviewer's nightmare to me <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Seriously, though: we can review Sigma lenses on several other systems already, so there is really no need to add another one.

No, what you are writing is nonsense.

EITHER you test out\r visual system (how we perceive red (66% less bright, by the way) compared to white,

OR you test the actual information being captured of a red subject by Bayer CFA sensors.

You did do neither, but mostly the test was of the 1st type, nothing about the 2nd type.

Why I don't do it is because it is bullshit, what you say you are testing. It is a nonsense test which does not hold up in any way.

So, device a better test to actually test the detail recovery of a red/blue/green subject, and a good way to actually evaluate the detail (so, without our eyes being the ones tested).

Lol, the apparently the sheer irony of the situation just slipped past you <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I’m talking about the recent argument regarding Sony’s SLT focus tracking, where you were clinging to your own test results and opponent was disimissing them as funny - now look how things have reversed <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The thing is that I have done at least some tests to back my claims up, while yours are backed by lots of hot air. Unfortunatelly “bullshit” and “nonsense” don’t have lots of weight as an argument, even if you repeat them a few times in a row.

Anyway – Bjoern – many thanks for that link to dpreview test (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sigmadp1/page20.asp), that’s exactly the thing I was going to do on Monday – print and shoot some different colour resolution charts. Now it just saved my time <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Specifically for Brightcolours: check that blue-and-red part of high resolution files – sigma’s 4.7 mp sensor easily outresolved D60’s 10 mp and that 100% proves what I was trying to get throught to you. From my side the case is closed, I don’t think any additional test could yield any more proof to that.

There is nothing ironic, just you misrepresenting things. If you are of the opinion that I made a mistake in conducting my AF tracking test trying to reproduce the described testing scenario as close as possible, and not to my advantage, then just voice your concerns regarding it in a grown up manner, and we can discuss that point. If you are of the opinion that my assessment of the crops from IR was faulty, then address that, and we can discuss that point.

If you on the other hand feel my test was representable enough to reach the conclusion I did, then don't bring it up here, because that is just a sign of you not being able to have a real debate.

I pointed to a very clear why what you proposed you were trying to test was a faulty test, because for the very simple reason that the image is not sharp in the first place, in fact not anywhere near it. That the white is... white. And the red is very dim in comparison. And that that means that we CAN NOT visually compare each, because then our eyes start to be the hurdle, not the CFA influence.

Both are very valid arguments, nothing ironic about it.

They were specifically about your proposed test, not any test, my objections.

It's not about lens testing, it's about DSLR testing. Why do you need multiple lenses to test a DSLR? And anyway, don't you get DSLR as a loan like lenses? If so, then surely it'll come with at least one lens.

Markus - lens testing on the SD1 was a joke- as the price is a complete utterly insult.

I don`t mind on which system you test the lens, even all the double(10mp-16mp) testing you guys doing currently is a lot of (good) work I appreciate, but the 10mp test tells me the same about the quality of a lens as the 16 mp test does. Strangly the difference between the canon 8mp to 15 mp is a lot more then I expected, especially at the corners .

Still I wouldn`t mind to see a a SD-1 DSLR review one day when the price comes done to a sane region. :-)

Don't worry Bjoern, I didn't take it serious <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

However, I don't know the future plans or roadmap of camera tests.
