Forums > Back > All @mail.ru addresses are now banned

Due to the recent porn postings I have decided to disable forum access to all users with a @mail.ru address. Sorry if this may hit the wrong person at times but I'm sick of this.

Huh, that's my mail provider, thank God I'm using an alternate domain name (they have a few).

I can spot a gazillion of unconfirmed registration requests from mail.ru ... thus probably bots.

I would say something but what's the point. Actually I think I will say something. The old days were so much better when most folks who used the internet were academic. There were a few bad apples back then but nothing pales today with govt sponsored misdirection. What I frequently wonder if I was just naive back in those days of younger years or if the world has turned more sour over the years.

I'm really wondering about the point of these spam messages. Who ever clicks on those links ?

Porn messages in a photo forum ? Just why ?

Beats me. By the way FredMiranda.com - another large photo forum I'm frequenting - has suffered an invasion in recent memory (though the intent was probably different - I don't know since I never even opened any suspicious thread). Our publication's email address is bombarded daily with spammers trying to peddle some goods (or probably bads Smile) through the feedback mechanism. Let's face it... this is today's interweb and no spam filters are perfect.

Not sure; and unrelated but in the US some lawyers put up illegal content; then wait for people to download them so they could sue them.

With regards to this specific incident don't know if the site harvest ips or inject java script attacks or to take advantage of known bugs in common imaging software. Maybe they figure people will pay $$ once they get a taste. Didn't bother to visit to see the game but at the end of the day there must be $$ involved.

Given the latest Spam messages I have decided to confirm new forum accounts manually.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
