Sony LA-EA1 adapter (Alpha to NEX)
#1
I just purchased this adapter for some testing here at PZ.

I did, of course, update the NEX-5 and the adapter to the latest firmware in order to support AF with SAM/SSM lenses.

However, the results are more than disappointing here.

The AF does something on the Sony 50/1.8 for instance but it does few things right - the AF is basically unusable here.

It's a little better with the 30/2.8 and 18-55/3.5-5.6.

Frankly it's not worth it if you ask me (vs a Leica M adapter).

Very slow performance has been reported elsewhere already, but I didn't expect it to be that bad.

To me, NEX is still the most interesting mirrorless system, hoping that the roadmapped CZ prime and the macro lens will be good.

Mounting SLR lenses to mirrorless cameras sounds not overly useful. For short lenses, you add bulk by the adapter and loose the advantage of the mirrorless camera. And for long lenses -- where the overall length is determined by focal length -- you can as well carry a DSLR as the body weight is negligible.

It seems that adaptor is blocking a bit of light if fast lenses are used.

The adapter is designed to cover the APS-C format. The rest of the space in the adapter is needed for the aperture mechanics and electronics.

If you use fast full format lenses the bokeh highlight are then "cropped" as a consequence. It shouldn't make a real difference with native APS-C lenses.
