Pentax users, where are they?
#11
Actually Pentax would be my best camera choice.

Since my faworite lenses are

Sigma 10-20

Tamron 17-50

Tokina 100Macro.

I will miss only some canon whites like my current 70-200/4.0

This Pentax user is still here, lurking most of the time. I'm thinking hard about the new K-r, it looks good on paper. If the reviews and user comments are positive I'll start saving my pennies. I would like the 21mm to go with it though, even if it's only f3.2. I know, it can't be a serious lens if it's not faster than f2. Heck, how could one take a decent photo with it, it's even slower than the new 35mm. My, my those fellows at Pentax must be losing it. :-)

Hi,

What happened to our Pentax users? We used to have quite a few of those. Today we saw a bunch of Pentax announcements: The new K-r and a Pentax 35/2.4 and nobody writes about them. I hope our Pentax folks didn't move into Canon land <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
To be honest we left. But not for Canon. Back when there was active Pentax reviews here, I was here looking at lenses multiple times per week, but once the Pentax reviews stopped we drifted away.

I only saw thread this because I wanted to see what the people here though of the announcements. It's a sad day for this forum.

I am still here. A short time ago, I was cashed up and looking at systems again. The Pentax limited lenses kept me in the fold. Looking forward to the K5.

As mentioned a couple of times the Pentax tests have not been abandoned. They will restart based on the K-5. This was planned and communicated.

Since almost all (if not all) the significant Pentax lenses have been reviewed there is not much else that PZ could have done to be more active. Klaus is certainly not anti-Pentax. Certainly the Canon/Nikon full-frame, μ4/3 and NEX merit the recent resources allocated to them.

The DA-L'esque 35mm f/2.4 lens is a major yawn, that's the reason there has not been much reaction to it.

3 or 5 days to go for the announcement on the K10D/K20D/K-7 replacement <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

I'm gonna get the new 35mm, its faster than my Super Takumar 35 f3.5, plastic or not, I'll find a spot in my bag for it. The K-5 looks like a useful upgrade from my K20D but my order will have to wait until a Katzeye comes out for it.

If rumors are true, the K-5 is no replacement for either of those, but a level above. The K-r is more of a replacement for the K10D/K20D and below K-7 IMO. Yes, no weather sealed body, but still.

Anyhow, I'm very excited about this announcement. Most likely it's my new camera we're waiting for, the one which will make my K-x my second body. I was planning on buying a second K-x before I knew of these new announcements that were to come.

Here are some ISO examples from the K-r: http://www.quesabesde.com/noticias/penta...ras,1_6740

PS: I've not been logged in as I'm on a laptop and my stationary is down due to a dead PSU, but now I had to write something and managed to figure out my login <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' /> My user name for login is not my user name here as it turns out, but now I'm remembering that.

Also, I now own the Sigma 8-16mm and Pentax 16-50mm. I had to sell my previous 16-50mm unfortunately, but it's nice to have it again. I also had to sell my 10-20mm 1:4-5.6. The 8-16mm is fantastic and better than my old super wide angle form Sigma.

True the K-5 may be a class above the K-7 or previous K10D/K20D market wise or specifications wise but to me its a replacement or upgrade for users of those cameras I mentioned. A K-R would not feel like an upgrade handling / build wise to a K20D for example, it lacks the 2nd dial and capacity for a grip <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

The K-5 looks to be a very good upgrade for those still with a K10D or K20D especially and perhaps there is enough for the K-7 users as well.

Off topic a little but do you have examples of shots taken with the Sigma 8-16 online anywhere?

I saw some new specs for the K-5 just now posted by Rice High. It's more of an upgrade from the K-7, I agree.

I haven't really used it that much yet, I got a job, so most of my time has gone to that and relaxing at home <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' /> Might get some today though, going on a day-trip with the local photography club. And I used it for some close up in turns at a motocross event.
