I'm not sure how that relates to my previous post, but looking back I think I wasn't specific enough. When I said continuous shooting, I meant stills, not video.

While it may be the most user friendly SLR-like video camera so far, from a stills perspective there is room for improvement.
<a class="bbc_url" href="http://snowporing.deviantart.com/">dA</a> Canon 7D2, 7D, 5D2, 600D, 450D, 300D IR modified, 1D, EF-S 10-18, 15-85, EF 35/2, 85/1.8, 135/2, 70-300L, 100-400L, MP-E65, Zeiss 2/50, Sigma 150 macro, 120-300/2.8, Samyang 8mm fisheye, Olympus E-P1, Panasonic 20/1.7, Sony HX9V, Fuji X100.

Where's the difference between video and still here ? If anything it should be even better for stills.

While dpreview isn't a site I particularly like, they sometimes get their hands on kit before others, and the section on the A55 AF and fast continuous still shooting doesn't sound so promising. link

Edt: perhaps I should say, it fails to provide additional benefit over conventional DSLRs at this point.

Just as the idea of switching to Pentax started growing on me, Sony finally releases an impressive camera that convinces me to hold off the switch. I'm not going to buy one, as I'm looking for something a bit higher-market to replace my KM 7D, but it's a very good sign after a long streak of very disappointing cameras.

What would get me to pull the trigger? An A77 with these features:

- AF micro-adjust

- AF/MF button on the back of the camera

- AF assist lamp

- More cross-type AF points (9 would be sufficient)

- Rear dial

- User memory presets

- Build quality closer to the KM 7D than to Sony's many toy-DSLR's.

- Nice to have: An option to lift the mirror when shooting, disabling the PD-AF but gaining a 1/3 of a stop.

Nothing here should be too hard for Sony to implement, except maybe the AF module. They've been dragging their feet on this one for several years, so maybe it's more challenging than one would think.

Do I need to spell every detail out with you people? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> The conversation was about AF tracking at that point.

Fair enough. Keep in mind though that the A33/A55 are first-generation entry-level cameras. Their concept supports continues phase-detect focusing with no blackout for the AF sensors (unlike even the most expensive DSLR's). This means that the potential for market leading AF tracking is there. Whether Sony will capitalize on it is a different question.

That, alongside a slightly larger body, would send me running to buy it.

After a little review, this seems like my old minolta A2 with a modern twist - interchangeable lenses. I'm wondering how much of this was resurrected from the minolta archives?

That's a very big twist in my book. Oh, and the sensor is slightly larger as well. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
