Sigma 70-200 OS available from July 23
#51
I actually used the 70-200 OS on my 40D today and it is really, really good.

Of course it is not as amazing as the new Canon mkII but for me the 500€ premium is just a bit too much.

2 100% crop pictures - no post processing, only converted from RAW with DPP.

40D - ISO100 - 1/1600 s - f/3.2 - 200 mm

And one uncropped

Interesting ... personally, I expected more from it.

Well, the last version was a step back from the version before that... at least Sigma is making progress again in this segment.

The 17-50 f2.8 OS HSM performs very well though, and the 8-16mm too... so yes, I too hoped for more.

What I don't like is that it lost its "macro" ability, giving a max. magnification that is a LOT worse than before. And the zoom ring on the "wrong" spot.

Lets see how the 85mm f1.4 will perform!

Nothing a little bit of sharpening cannot fix...I think people are over reacting and putting this lens down too much while forgetting that it's 700 eur cheaper than Canon/Nikon versions

Well, even though it's cheaper, it's still a rather expensive lens.

If I was searching for 70-200 2,8 IS/OS lens and by budget is 1400Euro I will go for new canon 70-200 2,8 IS MK1. they are still available in some shops.

That lens is not much sharper... but weather sealed and with a much better max. magnification factor.

And last but not at least – Canon has incredible good ring USM
