Why I like it to compare "rival" photographers' shots ;)

Thanks a bunch for the constructive input! (:

I have much to learn as a newbie. Operexposure I definitely one aspect I have to work on.

Is it easier to correct an overexposed or underexposed photo? I'm not too sure how big the EOS 40D's RAW headroom is :S

@specs: I bounced the flash off from the left wall, but it might have been too strong indeed. Besides, IQ at ISO 1600 is fine when you do some careful PP imho. F4 at 24mm (f5.6 at 38mm) does not deliver the greatest bokeh, but I don't have the money to get a new lens, except maybe a 100mm f2 for some nicely blurred backgrounds.

Also note that my clients - who are mostly students - simply don't have the patience and expect the photographer to take the shot within a few seconds, so I doubt that I'll be able to move my subjects around. I'm sure it would be different in a studio though, however, not likely in a students' kitchen..

Would you reckon this is a decent shot?

ISO 1600 | Aperture: f4 (max) | Shutter: 1/25 sec | Focal length: 40mm (64mm since 1.6x crop) | Flash: external, indirect, 1/16th power
