If you miss it you can switch to "outline" view in your forum settings. It's not the same as in the old forum but it's heading in that direction.
Thanks for keeping it...

Actually, I had not tried it myself, yet, but it looks pretty close to what we had in the past. Certainly better than what VBulletin offers.
Just a general note to everyone, though: it's up to the forum users to decide which display mode they prefer. So, we will have a mixture of linear and threaded readers. Please keep this in mind when answering, especially in a lengthy discussion or when the post you answer to is already a bit older. It might be obvious in tree view which post you replied to, but not necessarily in linear view.
If in doubt, it's probably a good idea to quote the relevant part of the post you reply to (but keep the quoted part as short as possible please) to avoid misunderstandings and maintain readabilty for all users.

I just noticed, that a switch to "outline" is lost as soon as one
logs out and logs in again ... albeit it was "saved" as a personal setting.
Seems to be a minor bug in the new SW.

a tree view is excellent yes, but it's for one thread, can we have a tree view for all new forum threads
just like the old excellent site layout ?

It seems to be depending on the cookie ... I've set firefox to
destroy all cookies when the browser is terminated ... and the
setting is kept only if I allow to keep the cookie. This is a bit
unfortunate.
Well, well, sorry to say, but I don't like the new forum. It may look slicker, but the speed and simplicity of the old forum were a lot better. I did switch to outline format, but that doesn't help much. It takes way too much clicking and scrolling around to see what's happening, and I think there's ultimately not enough traffic to justify the multiple forums.
Even within a single thread, it seems like there's no way to see all replies on one page but one has to click on each branch?
Also, my RSS feed in google reader only shows new top posts, I think, so that doesn't help.
Am I missing something????

Yes, these are all drawbacks of the new engine. The old forum had a couple of fairly unique features which are still not available from off-the-shelf products despite all these years since the implementation (for whatever reason). I can't say that I'm a big fan of all this myself. I do fully understand those who will leave but new users may be more accustomed to this kind of forum. The sad truth is that I simply did not have the time anymore to add new features/enhancements to the old forum. So I'm afraid ...

Why are you destroying cookies?
