Sony Zeiss FE 35mm f2.8 ZA : 799.99 USD. A 7 element lens, too.
And sure, the price of the Nikkor AF-S 58mm f1.4 G 1599.99 USD, that is extra mad. Madder than Sony at least.
Well, the Sony 50mm f/1.8 costs 199USD ...
The Sony 85mm f/1.8 costs a reasonable 550USD.
Citing the price tags of Zeiss lenses as a comparison is only sort of valid. We all know that there's an extra premium just because of the brand name.
The Sony 50mm f1.8 is a simple old design (same/similar to EF 50mm f1.8 II and EF 50mm f1.8 STM). With according performance. Not fair to point to that lens, really, as it is not comparable to a modern lens (it is of course totally comparable to the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 STM). In fact, the Sony FE 50mm f1.8 is a copy of a 50mm formula for SLRs, with an integrated mirrorbox-replacement tube.
Why mention the 85mm f1.8 Sony at all? It is not a 50mm, nor a 35mm. It is not as if the Nikon AF-S 85mm f1.8 G is more expensive.
The "Zeiss" lenses are Sony lenses with a Zeiss label, they are not manufactured by Zeiss and its magical unicorns... They were the lenses the Sony FF A7 series was introduced with, and they are the closest equivalents on the Sony FF side, I think.
