Thanks Klaus! Now it's pretty obvious why I'm considering the Tamron and the Samyang, but not this Sigma (if the old EX was sexy, this one is... BBW in comparison. Smile) If the stars are finally aligned, your tests of these two will probably will be the last argument in favour of one of those two.

I have no idea. What Sigma thought when they made it that big. Or what BBW is (maybe I don't want to be enlightened). The 85 of Sigma was no easy choice for me, but having tried the Tamron after there's no regret I went for the Sigma. At least it's sharp. But it wasn't out of the box.

The Tamron, at least wide open, shows a kind of overlay. It focussed mostly well, but at f/2 was a layer of softness which I don't see in Sigma's wide open frames. It has a nice bokeh and is definitely more portable. Couldn't try in low light, because here's a challenge, Sigma often fails at the outer focus points. At least since the last firmware update of the D850. Suspicious...

Now seriosly
Every design has constrains and priorities.
- price
- size
- materials
- IQ
Just to name few of them
