Weird report, R5 overheating is fake, it's a deliberate software limit..

Sony must be loving all this ...... their designers are probably whistling away merrily whilst designing more than adequate heat sinks for their new A7R.IV 8K ready  .........
Com on, David.

EOSHD, and the Baidu guy stripping the Canon are known to be fake news creators. And now the link to a YT-er, with 12500 subscribers and less than 10,000 views, who is totally against Canon as well?

I am pretty sure Canon is maybe a little overanxious with regard to temperature control, adn the marketing department went OTT with the 8K etc. video stuff.

However, the R5, for video, is an excellent 4K 30, 4K 60 shooter, and a 4K 60 Super-35 DGO shooter without temeperature issues. Those temperature limitations only come in with HQ modes, 8K, and 120p. As long as you limit yourself to short bursts of those, things are just fine. And even then, most of the problems can be overcome by using an external recorder, like the Atomos. BTW, the temps rise to 64C before limitations are acted upon - this probablky shows that Canon is conservative, as always.

A camera design like the R5 can never be a fulltime or professional replacement for a proper video-oriented camera, as it is not specced like a video camera, and not built like one either. You'd need to get a proper video camera at twice the cost or more without all the accesories required to properly use it.

When it comes to stills, which is the real intended use for a camera designed like the R5, it gets into Sony A9 territory, but has double the MP. Anyone I know that the people who use it (mainly) as a stills camera, are extremely happy with it.
