Lytro tried it before, while the concept was very very tempting and interesting, sharpness and resolution issues killed the project.
I don't expect sharpness equivalent to standard lenses, and they clearly mentioned we are getting half the sensor resolution, but it's still a tempting approach

I guess it all depends on the software, and how easy it is to use and how much that costs. Maintaining software is always an Achilles heel.
