Forums > Back > Bought Samyang 35mm AF F2.8 used: decentered?
#1
I've bought an used copy (rated as 'like new') of the Samyang 35mm AF F2.8 to replace my Sigma 30mm F2.8 DN | A, supposedly being the Samyang of equal or superior sharpness and at the same time lighter. After a very quick test it looks like it's decentered at the right side. It's quite obvious at ƒ/2.8, less at ƒ/4 and almost invisible at ƒ/8. It will be used for landscape, so mostly at ƒ/8.
Is it a Samyang bad copy, so should I return it, or is it the supposed quality of this kind of lens? I own the Samyang 12mm F2 manual focus, and it is slightly decentered as well.

The Sigma is not decentered and at apertures wider than ƒ/8 its borders are bit sharper. I really don't know what to do now, probably I should return the Samyang...

Yes, I'm going to return it. I'll give a further chance to the lens trying to buy a new copy, but if it's not ok I'll return it too — and the hunt for an better normal lens will reopen.

I've just realised that when they sell an used equipment "like new" it might be because the buyer didn't like the product after all, OR because he immediately found that the product was faulty...

I bought a new copy and fortunately it seems to be fine:

I'll later test how it performs with the sun in the frame.
