DXO Photolab 6
#1
There is currently a Black Friday deal on this one, so I thought I'd give it a go - because I was pretty much impressed by DXO PureRaw 2 (trial).

Photolab has an even more advanced ML engine for noise reduction.

I have to say that compared to Photoshop/ACR, this is in another dimension.
If I can find the time, I may do a side-by-side comparison at some stage, but I'd estimate that you can get the same results as in PS but at 2-3EV higher ISO. It's a blessing with night shots really.

ISO 3200 could almost be a mainstream setting on the A7R II (yes, it isn't because of reduced DR but still).

Indeed, the noise removal seems quite astonishing.
This wildlife photographer shows results at over 10000 ISO on a D500, very impressive!

Photolab 6 has an improved version of the NR which isn't available in PureRaw - yet at least.

FWIW, this is an "accidental" shot that I made .... at ISO 102.400 - processed with Photolab 6:

The image itself is crappy - I never really intended to use these mad settings. It's not good but still ... ISO 102.400 ...

This one here is more realistic - taken at ISO 3200 and heavily post-processed (pulled shadows, dampened highlights):

DXO gets more interesting when you use it itself for editing and color correction, it is very decent here too, most of the critics to DXO goes to their sales department not the software itself, they will do anything to force you buy the next version, when I bought 750D had to upgrade to get support, then again with EOSRP.
do you think it's justified to pay an upgrade just to have a new camera support ??

When it comes to noise reduction which is the one to get Photo Lab 6 or Pure Raw?
I have to agree with Toni on their marketing team - how $40 off $129 is 50%?

Photo Lab 6 has a newer NR engine.

"up to 50% off"

I'm a little angry that - as a non-EU resident - I should have no VAT added to my purchase. Yet they just take it.

This is ridiculous!
I am sure they cash out the VAT.
I watched a few videos on YouTube, it looks promising. However influencers mostly.
