Tamron overtook Sigma
#1
I just checked the numbers - Tamron is now bigger than Sigma.

That's very surprising I'd say. Sigma used to be the biggest lens manufacturer on the planet.

Excluding other segments, their photo divisions are about the same size.

Tamron: 45B yen (total: 63B yean - ~$480M)
Sigma: 43B yen (~$330M)

Feels odd given the fact that Sigma's lineup is much bigger.

I suppose Tamron is much popular in the US.

That feels odd indeed. What is the source and, or what does it include? Tamron has their optical fingers in a broader market than Sigma.

I definitely see a lot more Sigma' lenses here in the US. Tamron has never been that popular here.

The financial statements are listed on their respective websites.

I know Tamron is much bigger in my land too... I have 2 modern Tamron lenses and had one from one aeon ago (my ex now retains it), whereas the only Sigma I have is the quirky film-era 14mm. :-)

With closed R and Z mount, i think anyway they will shrink a bit compared to some years ago?

Tarmon does lenses for phones, p&s's, camcorders, CCTVs, and other industrial applications. Sony has a share in them, so their lenses are probably appearing in Sony products unlabeled, at least on the outside of the product.

Sigma only does lenses for ILC.

As mentioned above:
Tamron: 45B yen (total: 63B yean - ~$480M)
or
45B yen = photographic lenses
18B yen = the rest

Sigma 43B yen = photo products (cameras, lenses, accessories)
