Hi guys it's some years back (10 years or so) since I hunted for a standard portrait lens for my Nikon DSLRs, mainly for use with the D750 ..... at that time used AF85mm F1.8D lenses were abundant and AF-S 85mm F1.8G lens were short on the ground ....... so I bought the AF-D version ....
... since that time I have kept an eye out for the G version and one at a decent price that never came to light ...... that is until a few days back when I found S/H one for 212 euros from Rakuten ..... with 6 months guarantee and insurance ..... my first lens purchase in eight years or so!
The 85D version is in fact a good lens, however lacks bite wide open, Nikon needed to update the D lens to a G version with a built in motor and MF on the fly and they nailed the G version which is better in every respect.
It's probably of little interest now in this ML world that we now live in, on a lens site where one of the last Nikon F lenses tested was at the beginning of 2017 eight years ago ....
As for the second hand DSLR/lens market these F mount lenses are for sale everywhere, ebay, facebook, le bon coin etc .... though at the same prices as they were selling for when they were in their heyday .... dealers are asking less than private sellers .... IMHO very few of the lenses are selling at all and remain on sale for months on end ........ I will see how well the AF85mm F1.8D lens sells when I put it up for sale.
I just hope I get a good G copy .....
