Agree, but less to the weight as it is too heavy for mirrorless in my opinion. Regarding focus ring, I think in principle it is a good idea to have the focus next to the front element where you have your left hand. You can adjust rapidly in case of an internal zoom when you lack a push pull option as with the Tamron. The issue seems to be the collision with the lens hood that should have been avoided. Anyway, who shoots with the hood reversed?
Well, I draw the lens from the "holster" at times, if it fits the situation - no time to attach the lens hood then.

Good, noticeably lighter than the 70-200/2.8 lenses were used to (although not to the extent the new Sony is). Though the front-placed zoom ring would be one heck of a challenge for the muscle memory. :-) Never used a Tele lens with this kind of arrangement, unless you count the zooming grip area of the old (push-pull) Canon 100-400mm lens. :-)
