A little update - the E-PL3 was less than convincing in a short field trial. I just can't get warm with the PENs - they appear to deliver much softer images than their Panasonic counterparts.
My girlfriend will therefore go for a Pentax Q. IQ-wise it will not be better but at standard ISOs it will probably not be much worse either and even more light-weight.

Bummer re: E-PL3, and again re: the fact that you'll have to use the Q. I wouldn't dare to go on such a serious journey without a second body usable with my lenses. Oh well, guess even a Q is better than nothing. Have a nice trip regardless! Guess it's going to be exciting - Asia is like this. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> This year I was on the other side of Tibet, in Xinjiang, and it was a great trip, though the pics came out not very inspiring - I'm sure you'll be doing better! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
We'll be missing your reviews for the next month or more (myself even more so because I'm a Canon / Sony user so the Nikon reviews done by Markus only have a bit of academic interest for me...)
