Quote:Sorry but with some lenses it is better to wait a couple of months till the manufacturer has sorted out the QC problems ...
Yeah but there's no telling how long a given unit was sitting on a store's shelf...

Sure, yes, you never know really. However, I sort of doubt that these lenses will collect dust. The 16-70 was in short supply and I think that many people won't even notice a centering issue so even the returned lemons will find their owner.

FWIW, I am pretty sure the dealer sold me a demo unit. I have no issue with this per se as long as the IQ is right.

I wouldn't say the 1670 has a *bad* reputation, rather it has a reputation of wide sample variations (and high price). I'm curious to see Klaus' findings and to compare to the copy I own (which, you get, is somewhat decentered).

Klaus, please tell us more about the 16-70. What do you like about it?

Well, I didn't formally test it so far but the field images look fairly decent (decent, not outstanding) so far.

In the E-mount scope you have to keep in mind that Sony has released lots of ... ahh .... sub-standard stuff so in a sea of mediocrity something decent stands out.
