Nr.4 shows purple & green fringe... I hope this is not the corrected version. Because compared to Tokina CA standards this one shows very minor CA.

Tokina without flare and CA is something like Ferrari but not red isn’t it?

That's very promising. If this one produces good IQ on FFs, I can say that Tokina has found the niche in wide angle lens market. Silent AF, affordable price with very good IQ (also in the corners). At this price, the full framers (especially FX owners) would be quite happy. Nikon must be shivering right now...

But the Nikon 14-24 isn't much more expensive, is it? And from what I've read, it seems to be the leader of the pack in this range right now.

When it eventually reaches stores, I suppose it will be less expensive than MSRP and cheaper enough to make a good alternative to the Nikkor. A concern though is that it gets a bulged filter unfriendly front element at 16mm while Canon and Nikon typically don't at these focal length.
I think Nikon 14-24mm is more exspensive and also this price of Tokina will definitely go down in near future...
I believe this one will sit right between Nikon 17-35mm and 14-24mm in terms of competition...

I will certainly sell well below 1000EUR.
I'm very excited about this lens. I own the 50-135mm and 11-16mm Tokinas (using them with a Canon 40D) and they have performed beyond expectations, especially considering how much I paid for them ($500US a piece). While the current RRP is a bit high I expect the price to drop extremely quickly, settling somewhere around 70000yen. Definitely picking up the Canon version when it launches in September.
It's pretty nice price compared to Nikkor 14-24 or Canon 16-35.
