Tilt/Shift lenses

[quote name='Reinier' timestamp='1314949021' post='11243']

Thanks for your advice Markus and Brightcolours,

The tilt/shift adapter are quite expensive, so together with the cost of a MF lens it will not be cheaper than the TS-E 24mm I, so I think I will take your advice and will look for this lens or the Nikon PC 28mm.

By the way the person who sells the Canon TS 35mm f2.8, also sells an adapter for FD - EOS adapter, so it can be used on DSLR's: http://link.marktplaats.nl/478776970

Doesn't this work at all or just not properly or is it possible that there is an adapter anyway?

Best wishes,

Reinier

Well, the FD lenses have a shorter distance to the film/sensor than EF. If you put an adapter in between without optics, you lose infinity focus quite considerably, leaving a 35mm TS lens quite useless. Canon offered an adapter with optics for a while during the EF transition, which had relatively high quality optics. This adapter is rare/hard to find, and if you do find it it is expensive (€1000 or more). It was meant for tele lenses, due to the construction, so not a 35mm TS.

You can find adapters with optics, but most/all give quite mediocre results (because of poor optics). Can't comment in detail on the performance of the adapter the lens comes with.

Another negative point about adapters with optics to restore infinity focus: They act like 1.26x tele converters (canon one) or more

You can even expect 1.4-1.5x for some adapters with optics. So, the 35mm becomes 50mm TS, not wide at all.

The 35mm TS still can be a very interesting lens, of course, but rather with an adapter without optics (losing infinity and gaining close up ability) for close up photos.

To use it for what it was designed for, it does need conversion.
