The focus breathing issue (the getting wider FOV towards MFD kind) is still there:

Nikkon 70-200mm f4 VR for comparison:

MFD 1m. Max. magnification at MFD: 1:3.66

 

New Tamron:

MFD 0.95m. Max. mag. at MFD: 1:6.25

 

That is almost half the magnification ratio at almost the same distance.

On Pentax, mine had always focus issues. Was never sharp wide open, so what good is the f/2.8 then? I cannot confirm your "sharp lens" verdict. The Sigma 17-50 what BC suggests was way better, sharper, faster.

 

I think, I would opt for a Sigma 17-70/2.8-4 C these days. Bit more reach, less weight, better adjustment options (with the dock)
