they aren't sold as Samyang but you can still buy the same lenses under Rokinon name...
this is the 14mmf2.8... https://www.rokinon.com/lenses/digital-photo-lenses/14mm-f28-canon-rf

I suppose the only reason for this can be a patent violation.
If this is true they certainly got mail from Canon. However, if so it also means that Sigma/Tamron will have to wait for 10(?) years after the patent was filed. I sort of doubt that this strategy is helpful though. It may help with profits in the short term but unless you are a fanboy, it would make the system a no-go.

Then they would not be selling remaining stock via their Rokinon brand.

What other reason could there be? Canon R is the 2nd most popular FF system. You don't discontinue for no reason.
It's certainly not sales-related.

It's just Canon deciding to nip any possible competition in the bud, most likely. I'm not sure it's a good move for them in the long run, though. Despite this 14-35 lens being enticing enough, I don't think that if I ever go mirrorless it'll be the Canon system I'll be switching to since it's so closed and with relatively few lenses. Not to mention the good stuff is bloody expensive. I don't wanna think how much an R3 would cost.
Tho if I end up giving up journalism altogether I may just never switch to anything, just keep some of the old EF gear for good, even if it is considered horribly obsolete after a while.

Sigma is also planning lenses for RF and Z mount. And Tamron said RF and Z are under development.

Planning as in - asking legal?
