Canon just discontinued more EF lenses.
What's rather surprising is that some dinosaurs clearly outdated lenses like the 50mmf1.4 are still thriving while some excellent modern lenses like EF 35mmf2.0 IS see the end of their line.

This is actually partly due to chips- and other shortages.

If you only had limited parts available, parts you do not make yourself, or for which you are dependent on external suppliers, would you invest it or use them in new stuff or to maintain old lines? I reckon new stuff, and that is what Canon is doing the way I see it.

The pandemic unfortunately has caused more than just people staying indoors a lot, wearing masks, or getting ill.
Gear: Canon EOS R with 3 primes and 2 zooms, 4 EF-R adapters, Canon EOS 5 (analog), 9 Canon EF primes, a lone Canon EF zoom, 2 extenders, 2 converters, tubes; Olympus OM-D 1 Mk II & Pen F with 12 primes, 6 zooms, and 3 Metabones EF-MFT adapters ....
