I don't get Canon' strategy either.
Their lenses are either low grade and crazy expensive pro grade. Nothing in between.
On top of that, they are very aggressive to ensure no 3rd party manufacturer will ever produce lenses for their mount.
I cannot see why would anyone besides wealthy pros and fanboys even consider the system.
I'm glad about these releases actually. Whatever little doubt I had left about perhaps considering the system has now vanished for good :-)
Well, for the "in between" you have the 24-105/4L and the 70-200/4L. Looks like that's it, although with how much they cost they are also veering towards the "expensive" side.
The new lenses however look really uninspiring. If I'd been looking for an APS-C telephoto, I guess the fabulous 55-250 STM with the adapted would be a better idea.
Dunno you don't like them...
24-50 looks like a perfect tiny kit lens...If Canon wouldn't make the leaked 20-40f4 pancake I might well get it.
Remember ? despite all the shortcomings of Sony 16-50, I bought it again.
Would I buy it ? sure but of course nobody buys a kit lens new...soon there will be plenty of it for sale used in new condition from those who bought camera kit...
As for 55-210 look at the sales of EF 75-300, this one should be no exception.
Of course those the lenses we want, but those are lenses that would sell, very very well...

Nobody in their right mind buys the 75-300 out of their own volition, and it's darn near impossible to get rid of one. The only reason people are getting it is because Canon is putting it in double kits with rebels, and people who don't know better end up stuck with it because there's no way to sell it. I would not take it even if I had been offered it for free, because it's not an asset, it's a liability.
I know the modern lenses are supposed to be better even in the low end, but the 75-300 is the blemish on the lineup that has no valid reason to exist now.

At least in EF mount there are multiple options. In RF mount, Canon has made sure there is little choice, and especially none from the independent manufacturers. It's either this 55-210 or the $1600 70-200/4 IS (the price of this lens being ridiculous in itself).
As a consumer, like you, I am frustrated with Canon attitude, all they care for is income, what they are doing from a marketing point of view however, makes sense, this cheap crap is where the money is, plenty of 75-300 were never used but they make customer buy their kit instead of a let's say Sony kit "because 300mm that's more reach than 210mm" and "it can be used on full frame later on when you upgrade "
