Not dead yet it seems then.

If it's decent, I'll restart the MFT tests.

Oh well, I saw this yesterday already.  I am not sure what to make from it.

The company and the CEO know where they stand and how their position is discussed in the internet.  They know that they have to do something soon which has impact and that is what I read here: An acknowledgement of the difficult situation and an expression of intent.

They speak a lot about lenses, but I do not think lenses are what they need.  For most types of lenses you have a choice of two to three models at different speed and quality level.  Regarding the telephoto to come, there are already three 40-150 to choose from: f/2.8, f/4.0 and f/4.0-5.6.  What they need is one or more credible bodies.  The reception of the OM-5 was lukewarm at the time and this is now some time in the past.  The OM-10 is overdue, but they told David Etchell (IR founder) some time ago, they are not planning on entry level.  We discussed it here at the time.

So I am really wondering what this new body will be, when it will be and whether it will be judged as "to little, to late".  Looking at the past releases, I would not be surprised by the latter.  Part of their issue is they upgraded from DSLR to mirrorless over a decade ago, while their competition has this business now (or just had it to fill their coffers).  I will watch the situation and see what they do.

By reading the tea leaves (aka the lens roadmaps) I have come under the impression that the new lens is more like a 50-200? It might be a moderately fast one which will be marketed as a 100-400mm (FF) equivalent.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they release. My Pen-F started acting up this past weekend. I haven't had a chance to sit down and see what's going on. I may need a new body sometime soon....

They have created a teaser and there are the usual leaks.  It seems it's going to become a vintage looking camera in SLR shape.   Supposed to like the OM-1 film SLR of the seventies.  What they seem to miss is the shutter dial around the lens mount.  That was for me what distinguished the Olympus cameras (with the exception of the OM-10)  from the other brands.

I am wondering whether OM-sytems is trying to place them up market.   There doesn't seem to be anything entry level in the pipeline.  Leica also doesn't do anything entry level.  Anyone knows whether they are profitable?

The pricing for this thing seems to be on OM-1 level. It's basically just a repackaged OM-1.
So they are trying to harvest from the retro folks without offering anything fundamentally new.
