Right, assuming you work with the AF-S 60 and/or 105 micros you'd be fine with the Nikon 5100, swivel LCD helping in case of live view focusing. I wonder though, what's wrong with the D3's imaging for the purpose of macro photography ? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Nothing, I suspect. But, like you get "more tele" (1.5x crop factor) with APS-C in the frame, you get a bigger bug (1.5x crop factor) in the frame too. So, maximum achievable enlargement of the subject to an image is larger than with full frame.

You have the best camera. Buy a good macro lens, like a Nikon 200mm f4. Much less hassle than a second camera with les quality !

Not for macro purposes. Macro photography is usually tripod based, so you don't need the high-ISO capabilities and fast focusing of the D3. A D5100 or D7000 will gain him more resolution and a higher effective reproduction ratio (compared to FX).
