... albeit somewhat decentered (again).

When lenses are reported to have centering issues - in particular mechanically complex ones such as zooms - I am left wondering when it decentred. Was it never produced properly or did it decentre later? Is it just mechanical imprecision - for example wobbling internal elements. If one shakes the lens will the pattern change?

The key is how long will the lens keep. If one - as you seem to suggest - keeps returning the lens until one has one which is well centred. Will it or will it not decentre soon with use? If it mechanically instable the little knocks that naturally occur when transporting and using the lens might just do this. Also the demands for stability and fast, easily movable focussing elements are conflicting.

Any comments?

Thanks
