Let's face it, it is not a large investment for Sony and they do not achieve veto rights or dominance on the board of Olympus. Therefore it must be a strategic investment to be informed and possibly use the technology that Oly develops. It is not quite obvious what they want, since their NEX are all APS-C and Oly is MFT. Maybe they see a future in the MFT market, in which case they would acceed to a good set of lenses and body technology right away.
I doubt that it would be for the medichal division, but who knows..........!
As for whether this info has its place here; I definitely think so. It is important to understand who pulls the strings and this could over the long term be just a beginning for Sony's involvement with Olympus. There will be other needs for cash and Sony has big pockets and whoops, here is the majority shareholder of Oly!!Who has the best mirrorless APS-C camera today; who has the best MFT camera? They may just be making the first of a number of investments to dominate the mirrorless market on the cheap.
