In reality I have no clue if this is true; but the design of the slt camera knows that the lens will be further away; the nex has to handle the case where the lens is close.
This could have allowed for a design that performs differently; though having made that statement I woudl have though that the nex would perform as good or better since it would expect in some cases for the lens to be near.
