This could have allowed for a design that performs differently; though having made that statement I woudl have though that the nex would perform as good or better since it would expect in some cases for the lens to be near. This would imply that the sensor is different.However, even on the NEX7 there are no offset microlenses thus no optimization. The cover glass nor the SLT mirror change the optical path.

The mount to sensor distance must be identical - otherwise you are not within focus speciication of the A-mount.
