I'm almost wondering ...

Do you even realize Pentax is the only one with a 28-105mm in its current line?
No wonder the others' 24-105 are selling "better" than lenses they don't have. I could also say, Pentax' 28-105 is selling very well compared to their non-existing 24-105.

I agree, Pentax have the 28-105mm which is a decent lens ............ it would be a waste of their limited resources to spend a fortune "tweaking" another 4mm at the wide end that nobody is asking for.

They just need to bring out FF primes .... like the awaited 85mm F1.4.

Who on Earth wants a 28-105/3.5-5.6 when a 24-105/4 or 24-120/4 is available in CaNikon's lineup? The K-1 is around since February 2016 and the lens line-up has still some weird gaps. No fast prime below 31 mm (and by "fast" I would even include an f/2) and no fast prime over 85. I wonder why Pentax tooke the trouble to release a FF body back in the day.

A Pentax K1 shooter who hasn't the wherewithal to reverse engineer Canon/Nikon lenses to mount on his K1 ..... who else?

Right; but it's not only a matter of availability.
And the "tweaked" wider, faster lens? We have it, it's the 24-70 f/2.8; not as long one might argue, but faster and priced about the same as the aforementioned f/4 zooms. The 28-105 OTOH is a surprisingly good "kit" lens, costing half the price.
As I said, this range is reasonably well covered. Not their most urgent gap to fill Wink  Those primes, OTOH...

It would be nicer if it started from 24mm, of course (without compromising its optics). But I cannot agree that it absolutely had to be a twice as expensive f/4!

You think, the Pentax K1 shooter really wants a 28-105 with variable aperture? Or, if he had a choice, would NOT prefer the 24-105 range? The Sigma 24-105 is rather mediocre wide open, but from f/5.6 it becomes really good. At least according to Roger Cigala: https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2018/02...ries-lens/

The price of the Sigma is rather close to the admittedly nice price tag of the Pentax.

As everyone else, we'd like a 1-10000mm f/0.1 pancake with perfect optics for less than 1$.
But we have to go with what's available Wink

It's amazing what a difference the word "if" makes in the Pentax shooters world !!

Pentax wants to keep the niche of DSLR lovers, so it needs to concentrate its efforts on making lenses where DSLRs are as good as MILC
On a 85f1.4 SLRs have no chance vs mirrorless so why invest there ???
Aside lenses SLRs still do very well with flash photography, did Pentax invest here ???
for the outdoors and hiking I easily prefer DSLRs, camera always ready, battery never dies so a decent standard zoom is more than needed, 24-70f2.8 is nice but it's not the lens for that, Pentax must put some efforts for such a lens and we all know standard zooms usually sell very well.
I noted also Pentax APS-C line is well covered, they must play aggressively the prices game here
