Sebbi will do some further testing but I think we'll use it as a new base camera in the MFT section.

The GF-1 may not be really outdated here but it is pretty old by now.



Personally I like the GX1 quite a bit although the missing viewfinder is a minus in my book though.

The control dial could be a little smoother IMHO. The AF is super fast in most scenes (better than on the NEX 7).

Thanks for the update, much appreciated. I take you didn't get the aux-finder for it. After about 2.5 years with an E-P1, I sort of agree. There are many situations I would have liked at least an aux-option.



I look forward to reading an update from Sebbi once he is ready to share something.

I'll likely get a GX-1 when the price goes down a bit.



On Thursday I got a very good deal on a GF-2 and a few lenses, couldn't resist the offer, and got them all on Friday.

It'll likely replace my Canon G10, IOW, this is my new "can't take the 5D II and/or 1D Mk III along" camera <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.



Considering the quality of lenses, the size and heft, and plain build quality, this suited me better than a Nex.

It will be the first review on the GX-1. I'm afraid that it'll take a while - manual focusing isn't exactly trivial with this lens.

Hmm. Did you consider AF? If light levels are decent, such that sensor noise is low, contrast AF is pretty precise. Your targets are very AF-friendly.



On that note, do you experience "slag" with normal mFT lenses? My 14-42 first incarnation does that quite badly. In MF I have to make sure not to hunt back-and-forth. If I go over the optimal point I have to de-focus considerably and try again. The last move has to be all in one direction. My other lenses seem better though I mostly use AF these days, even on a E-P1 with largish AF fields.

Compared to an E-P3 the GX1 is quite a bit cheaper. Problem is that it will not work so well with the tiny m.Zuiko 40-150 due to no IBS. I also completely detest Panasonics battery policy. To many different types and encoded.



On the other hand there is the infamous rattle-snake issue with fast Panasonic glas on Oly-bodies. Things are not easy.



Considering your lens comments, which ones did you get?

I realised that too, and immediately got myself a spare battery, just in case. I know they are very hard to come by as well.

Considering your lens comments, which ones did you get?

I got extremely good deals on the Pannie 7-14 F/4, the Leica 45 F/2.8 macro, and either (or both) of the Panny 14-140 OIS or the Olympus 14-150. I tried the Olympus first, because it is smaller, but realized rather quickly I needed the OIS, so went for the 14-140 - this as a general travel lens.



As I really like primes, in general, I also got a 20 F/1.7, short standard lens, which is a focal length I really like a lot, and this lens is mounted on the camera by default. I was really lucky with both the 7-14 and 45 macro, as both are very good lenses, and within the areas I use a camera a lot, UWA and macro. I missed that with the G10, and macro with the G10 also only was soso. I also found that my general A5-sized carry bag in which I always had my Canon G10 with me, I could easily fit the 7-14 and the GF-2 with 20 F/1.7, which is exactly what I use most <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.



So, I am now off to find a buyer for my G10 <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />.

Plans for the future are possibly a longer zoom, and 1 or 2 specialist primes <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />. But I better get properly used to this camera first.



I don't see this as a replacement for the 5D II, however. That I will keep and continue shooting with, for when I can carry it and a few lenses. I see this camera really as a replacement for the G10, with better IQ, better lens(es), better (overall) reach, etc., even if a little heavier.



So far, I am quite happy with it.

Why is it difficult to focus? I mean is it an issue with the GX-1 and the display/magnify feature not being useful or the lens lacking the ability to precisely adjust focusing (I've not seen either the gx-1 or the lens so it might be obvious to someone who has sampled them - i've been leaning towards the om-d, nex or pro-1 but i'd like to know more about the gx-1)
